How to Make Hamburger Casserole in a Slow Cooker
Aunt Lou here.
This is seriously one of my FAVORITE childhood recipes. I would have been happy if momma would have made this every week. It is also one of the first meals I mastered when I started to try and cook.
Momma always made this in the oven. I usually make it in the oven too. It is a smaller portion, though, and we always seem to want more leftovers from this one. So, since ya’ll know I love my crock pots, I couldn’t help but try it out as a crock pot meal. And by golly, it worked! Woohoo!
I hope you guys enjoy this delicious and simple meal as much as we do. It is actually one of the first things I made for Michael. He fell in love with it, and my hubs is the epitome of the saying, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” 😉
Ingredients for Crock Pot Hamburger Casserole
3 lbs ground beef
1/4 cup minced dried onion
3 pkgs 1 oz gravy mix

This sound so easy and delicious I’m thinking when I make it I might add some mixed vegatables. Do you think that would change the cooking time ?Reply
Aunt Lou says
I haven’t tried this with adding mixed vegetables, but think it could work. Are you wanting to add canned, fresh or frozen? If canned or frozen, I think the cooking time should stay the same. If you want to use fresh veggies, it will depend on what you use and their size. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

This was so good! My husband said to add this to his list of favorites! I used the big, fluffy biscuits and it took forever, next time I will cut them into smaller pieces.

I’m so glad you and your husband enjoy this recipe Carolyn! That’s a good idea if you want to use larger biscuits! I used the smaller ones, so they don’t take quite as long as the larger ones, but cutting the larger ones is a great way to make it work!

Hi aunt Lou, I was wondering if you could change the color on the print recipe from red to white and just leave the letters in red or black or a color? I use your recipes all the time and usually print them out when making them. The red color takes so much ink. It drains my cartridge. I’m not complaining because it does look nice and colorful it just takes up so much ink to print your recipes. Thank in advance if you can make this change.

Aunt Lou says
Hi Debbie! If you use the print button on the recipe card (it is the far left button on the red part of the recipe card), that will take the red off of the printed version. Hope this helps!

BRENDA LOZANO says
The Crock Taco Soup was terrible. I had to add 2 teaspoon kosher salt, rotel chili, and a can of hot dog sauce and a cup of beef broth to make it taste good. Shouldn’t all the recipes have ‘SEASON TO TASTE” I would love to try the Hamburger Casserole but using # lbs of ground meat, that is fifteen dollars worth of meat to experiment.

I’m sorry you didn’t like the Taco Soup Brenda. We always encourage our readers to take recipes and make them fit their own tastes, so feel free to season to taste with any recipe! You can change the amount of servings on a recipe if you want to make smaller portions. Here is a link to a video that will show you how!Enjoy!

I made (what I call) Hungry Jack casserole last night, very much like this but it has bbq sauce and cheese in the recipe. My son said it would be perfect without the bbq sauce and the cheese! lol…so he asked for a casserole with just the meat and biscuits. This will be his new favorite, I can tell already. Thanks for the idea!
