L x Misa comfort fic - Tired_Queen (2024)

Yelling. Lots of yelling, L could hear it. It was incoherent, mostly. But he could tell that they were Light's and Misa's voices. Usually, L would tune out the distracting noises, but knowing that it was Misa and Light made him curious as to what they were fighting about.

Suddenly, Misa burst into the room, tears in her eyes. She covered her face with her hands. L's eyes widened at the scene that was unfolding in front of him. She probably didn't notice that he was there, or she did, and she wanted to possibly vent to him. She stood in the same spot, still sobbing. Misa's hair had fallen over her face and her hands that were covering her face.

L finally spoke up, "Misa…" He mumbled, but he said it loud enough for her to notice him. She looked up to see him crouched like he normally was, staring at her weeping form, she gasped, "Ryuzaki!"

A couple tears rolled off her beautiful face. Even when she was crying, she was still gorgeous. Crying or not, she was still Misa, L thought.

She stammered, "I, I….I'm sorry, I forgot that you were out h-"

"You don't need to be sorry, Misa." L said, his voice was monotone as it was any other time, but he was very concerned for her.

"Okay, thank you...I just...I don't know if I should be sharing this with you, you're busy and…." More tears began to trickle down her cheeks, one tear made its way onto the lip of her nose before sliding down to her full lips. His eyes quickly glanced to her lips because of that (or because people who like others seem to involuntarily stare at their lips. Psychology is strange, huh?)

His eyes met hers, "I'm fine with listening to you, Misa." L told her, and her features softened oh-so slightly at that response.

"Okay. Again, thank you for this, Ryuzaki. It's just….Light yelled at me for trying to spend time with him, and I just feel like I'm being a bad girlfriend for that. Do you think I'm doing something wrong in our relationship?" Misa asked him, sitting down next to him.

L bit his thumb, avoiding her gaze. Even though he did want to meet her glistening eyes, he stared forward, lost in thought. L was probably the last person to ask for relationship advice, but if he suspected one thing; Light and Misa weren't good for each other.

But maybe his brain had come to that conclusion because he may have been a tad bit jealous of Light for being able to date such a wonderful, beautiful woman. Brains tend to ignore proper rationalization when it comes to romantic feelings. Alas, his 'crush' (It was weird to L when he came up to this word. He had never had a 'crush' before, not even when he was growing up. Most kids seemed to have them at least once or twice, he was just the odd one out. Sure, he found women attractive, but those thoughts never bloomed into real feelings, but now he wasn't the odd one out) was hopelessly in love with Light Yagami, of all people.

He finally came up with an answer to her question, "I don't think you're being a bad girlfriend. I think Light is being the bad boyfriend here."

She seemed a bit taken a back at this answer, "My Light is not a bad boyfriend, Ryuzaki!"

He finally turned his head to face her, and she looked in denial. But he just could sense that she was agreeing with him. Maybe she was easy to read. Or possibly L was just overthinking this.

"If that is what you think, Misa, then that is what you think," L told her, looking away from her again, "but I think that Light should be a better boyfriend to you. You deserve someone who'll treat you the way you should be treated."

'I could treat you right, Misa.' The thoughts echoed in his mind, he could almost hear those words out loud. He felt like he was in some sort of romance film. One person's eyes are looking at someone else, but your eyes are looking at them, but they don't look at you. So, you're left with nothing but pining and heartbreak. In the end, you end up together. Happily ever after. Sadly, this wasn't the case. He would just be left with his pointless feelings for her until he got over it.

What if you didn't get over them. A voice in his mind nagged at him. Yes, he had heard stories of people who seem to never get over a person. But that was love. True love. This was….well, he didn't know what it was.

"Okay…" Misa responded, trailing off a bit. He couldn't help but wonder what was going through her mind right now. Was she taking his words into consideration? Was she going to say, 'Ha, no. Light is forever my boyfriend and we'll be together forever.' ?

Who knew. L could only sense and observe.

"Now that you say it, I agree." Misa said all of the sudden. It caught him off guard, honestly. He actually almost gasped at those words. He didn't think that simple sentence could almost gain a physical reaction from L, but it nearly got him to.

The sentence could be used in a lot of things. Like, 'I think cake is better than pie is', but knowing that she said those words to what he had said about her and Light came as a shock.

"You agree with that?" L asked, trying to regulate his tone to not sound like he had been told something that shocking.

"Yeah… I mean, whenever I try to give him affection, he gets all...cold? Like he doesn't care about what I'm doing. He doesn't ask how I am or anything!"

Her crying had subsided at this point, but when he looked at her face, it was still red and wet from her sobbing.

"That's not cool of him", he responded, he almost sounded angry. He wasn't happy that Light could treat such a great woman the way he did, "if he wants to stay with you, he needs to treat you like a person, not a-"

Misa leaned her head on his shoulder. He stiffened. Just like a board. Or a statue. Unmoving for a moment, his mind raced. Why would Misa, of all people in this world, lay her head onto L's shoulder? She could have possibly been seeing how much he truly cared for her.

He finally snapped out of it and relaxed. Her hair made its way onto his exposed skin, and it tickled just a bit. But he kept himself calm during this. His heart had started to beat faster than average, but he managed to keep his breathing normal enough.

She sighed. The sigh was blissful, in a way. He looked at Misa's face out the corner of his eye, hers were closed shut. She looked so at ease. As if they were supposed to be like this. Her relaxing on his shoulder as he listened to her quiet breaths.

They stayed like this in a silence for who knows how long. It had to have been more than 10 minutes, L had estimated. He made no indication of wanting move. Their breathing had eventually synced, he took a mental note of that little fact. It made him weirdly happy, for some reason.

Misa stirred, moving her head away from him. He felt a tang of sadness at this, but he tried to hide his disappointment at this action. "Ryuzaki?" Misa asked him, he looked at her observing how she still kept herself close to him. She looked so innocent and cute. Almost like a puppy. "I'm tired. Can I stay out here tonight with you?" She pleaded. Not like she really had to do that, he was so hypnotized by her, he just had to say yes to her. Light wouldn't, and he'd be more than happy to give her that satisfying 'yes'. A simple word. Could be an answer to a lot of questions, but this was Misa.

"Oh, of course. You stay out here, Misa." L said, giving her a slight smile. Which is something he doesn't do often, but he wanted to show her how much of an effect she had on his choices.

"Yay! Thank you, Ryuzaki!" She squealed a little, quickly giving him a peck on his cheek.

Surprise flooded through him. Misa had not only willing opened up to him about her and Light, leaned her head onto his shoulder, but she had now kissed him on his cheek.

He couldn't see himself, but he could feel the heat on both of his cheeks. He had to have been flushing a shade of red or pink.

"Aww, Ryuzaki! Don't be so nervous!" She said, smiling at him. It was sort of shocking how she had gone from being in tears to kissing his cheek and teasing him for his reaction, but he didn't mind it.

L stood up, stretching out his body as well as he could. He heard Misa's voice behind him, "What are you doing, Ryuzaki?"

He turned to face her, and she sat there, staring at him, a questioning look on her beautiful face. Her hair was a bit disheveled too. "Oh, I was going to sleep on the chair. You can take the couch, Misa."

In his mind, he didn't want to move. He wanted to stay there while she rested on his shoulder forever. But he wasn't going to make her uncomfortable. Her needs came before his. Light always prioritized himself. He never gave her a second thought.

"It's okay, Ryuzaki. We can share the couch." Misa told him, giving him her award winning smile. This one was real, though. Not the ones in her photos. This one was sincere, real, and kind.

He didn't know what to say to that. Now she wanted to share the couch with him. He felt butterflies in his stomach. He had felt them before during random times he got nervous. But it had never been that bad before. His heart fluttered too.

"Alright." L said, he had the slightest shake in his voice. Misa didn't seem to notice it, though.

Misa grabbed his hand. Her hand was tiny in his, but it was warm. He felt happy but nervous. Their hands fit together so well. When she held hands with Light, it looked so forced and unhappy. But theirs, however, fit together. He squeezed her hand, and she tugged him just a bit, motioning for him to sit. And he did. He sat 'normally' right now, as the others would describe it.

He leaned back on the couch, his gaze finding the ceiling. Their hands were still tangled together. He sighed deeply, but he felt strangely calm. Yes, she was his interest. But, talking to her tonight made him feel more comfortable around her in general.

He felt Misa let his hand go. Feeling disappointed again, he almost sighed because of it. But she suddenly laid her head on his chest.

His breath caught in his throat. He was not expecting that at all. "Is this okay?" Misa asked him.

"It's more than okay." He responded, still not meeting her eyes. Even if she wasn't looking at him. She giggled a bit. "Thanks." Her response was breathy.

L put his arm around her, pulling her a bit closer to him as they both relaxed.

"Goodnight, Misa." L said to her. She responded in a tired tone, "Goodnight, Ryuzaki."

L awoke at some odd hour. His eyes were still closed shut. He was suddenly aware of how warm he was. He then noticed the pressure he felt on himself. It was Misa.

He had forgotten how they had fallen asleep. He then noticed the position they were in. L had somehow moved to the very corner of the couch, with Misa sitting basically on his lap, her head leaning against his chest. His arms wrapped around her small body. She was still sleeping.

It wasn't that dark anymore, and he could make out her facial features. Her mouth was parted slightly, her hair had fallen away from her face. Her breathing was a bit heavier in her sleep, too. She still looked gorgeous, even in a deep sleep.

L felt so comfortable during this. They fit together like a puzzle. As did her and Light. But her and Light were like when you first put together a puzzle. One piece with another piece. You think they'll fit, but they don't. So you get another one and it works.

He leaned down, barely grazing his lips to the top of her forehead. It was so light. Feather light. It barely could be considered a peck. The one she had given him earlier that night was a true peck. Like a stray strand of hair moving its way across her forehead.

She gave no reaction. But he did notice that her lips had moved up slightly in her sleep. The smallest possible smile, but it was still a smile. Probably from a dream, not from his little 'kiss'.

Maybe she is dreaming of you. His tired mind told him. He could only hope. He didn't remember his dream, but he assumed that her beautiful face had made its way into his slumber.

L relaxed once again, pulling her even closer. "We fit together so well, Misa." He whispered, and she stirred a bit. Nuzzling herself to him more.

He had never felt so comfortable in his life. He needed this. Cuddling with Misa was something he wanted so badly. The amount of happiness he got from this simple little thing was so amazing. He could only imagine being her boyfriend.

"I can treat her better than you can, Light Yagami." He mumbled, drifting off to sleep after those words.
